Special Issue of Production and Operations Management on
“Operations Management and Information Systems Interfaceâ€
Subodha Kumar, Texas A&M University
Vijay S. Mookerjee, University of Texas at Dallas
Deadline: April 1, 2015
Today, Information Systems have permeated almost all aspects of modern organizations, including Supply Chain and Production Systems. While it is easy to see that Information Systems are critical to the proper functioning of Operations in a firm, it is also true that the need to serve Operational functions have impacted the design and configuration of Information Systems. Thus, there is a two-way relationship between the research in these fields. To foster research on this relationship, we propose a call for papers under two broad areas:
(1) Research that examines the impact Information Systems have on solving problems in Operations Management. An example of this category is the use of demand and other information in supply chain management.
(2) Research that uses Operations Management methods in solving operational problems in the management of Information Systems. One example here is the use of Operations Management concepts in project management to better manage large scale software projects.
Scope and Topics
We are inviting submissions in the above two areas, but any submission that highlights problems at the intersection of Operations Management and Information Systems is welcome. The treatment must be rigorous, however, any method of inquiry such as analytical modeling, econometric analysis, experimental, or behavioral is acceptable. The topics of interest to the special issue include but are not limited to:
· Information Management in Supply Chain
· Multi-Channel Retailing
· Project Management for IT Projects
· Impact of Information Technology on the Performance of Supply Chain
· Operational Issues in Information Systems Security
